What is the purpose of Military Operations Areas (MOAs)?

Military Operations Areas (MOAs) are designated airspace areas set aside to separate military training activities from Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) traffic to ensure safety during military exercises. The purpose of MOAs is to allow military aircraft to conduct training operations that may involve high speeds, aerobatic maneuvers, and other activities that could pose risks to civilian aircraft flying in the same airspace.

When an MOA is active, the military can perform various exercises while civilians are informed and able to divert their flight paths accordingly. MOAs do not completely restrict civilian aircraft; rather, they inform both military and civilian pilots of the potential military activity in those areas, allowing for situational awareness and safe navigation through or around the designated airspace.
